I first became aware of the work of the College throught advertisments in the press as I neared the end of my service in the Police Force and retirement was looming. I was nearing 55 years of age and wanted to do something completely different from a lifetime of police work. I did however want to deal with people, and if I could, continue in a different way to help them. Also at my age I did not really fancy working for another organization but wanted to be my own boss and be self employed.
I commenced my training the year before my retirement was due, and continued it after retirement until I was qualified. My training has given me the skills to take up a completely different vocation and allows me to be as busy or otherwise as I wish. I do have a number of hobbies and interests to pursue and I am able to chose my days and times. I would recommend the College and the profession to people seeking something different from an existing career. I certainly get a lot of satisfaction knowing I have helped people with conditions causing them pain to be able to walk in comfort again. I have learned so much from my association with the college and made many new friends .
