A wise man (my uncle) once said to me “the day that you think about resettlement from the army Jim is the day you join son”, wise words and words that I heeded well over the years.

Still, as this Company Sergeant Major approached his18-year mark in the army I found that I needed an occupation that would be both fulfilling, disciplined and allow me to work for myself.
Roll up the Foot Health Practitioner as a possible career.

A one-year intensive modular course from the Collage of Foot Health Practitioners, which is at Diploma level working at home with a 2-week practical clinic at the end of your modules. This course is not only on par with any course that I have attended in the army, in that the instruction and professionalism has been 1st class, but also the rewards that you achieve personally are huge. The course is very achievable with your army life and the lecturers are always on hand to help.
Although the course is not for everyone and yes it is expensive is not beyond anyone’s means remember it is a job for life that you control and are not working for someone else. Facilities management YES, Security YES, Insurance YES and the list of post army jobs goes on and you will always work for someone else. Why not see your ELC Officer and use your £1,000 grant towards your course. You know it makes sense.
At the moment I am working in the evenings and at weekends building up my practise, to date I have 22 clients and will be working my way slowly to a well-established practise in 4 years time.
