Having qualified in February 2007 I have been amazed at the support I have had from, not only another more experienced another Foot Health Practitioner in my area, but also from the college itself.
On my last day of clinical training I was fortunate enough to meet Anne Collins who occasionally shadow teaches at the college. She gave me her card and I contacted her the week after I qualified. She immediately invited me to watch her work at one of her clinics. The tips and guidance I received have proved invaluable in setting up my fast growing domicillary business. Not only that but Anne has also trusted me to cover her clinic when on holiday - another great way for me to gain more experience, and a lovely new friend.
More recently Glenise from the college phoned both myself and Anne. A lady who owned a hairdressers had a room in her salon for rent. She had emailed the college asking if they knew of any recently qualified FHP's in our area as the lady who run's the foot clinic in her salon is leaving. By coincidence Anne and I were meeting the next day and having both spoken to the salon owner, we decided to drop by and take a look at the clinic. The lady who runs the clinic happened to be there and she had also qualified at the College of Foot Health Practitioners 4 years ago, and having built up a very successful business is leaving to open her own clinic (which doesn't have a steep flight of stairs!). She was happy for us to continue this already established clinic and it was lovely to meet another FHP. We all agreed that there are plenty of feet to go around! As a result both Anne and I will be running the clinic together which will hopefully prove to be a success.
I've been very fortunate and could never have anticipated the support I have received. I am very glad I made the decision to become a FHP and also pleased that I chose the best college to train with.
