Biomechanics in Foot Health Practice Masterclass
Develop a practical understanding of biomechanics in Foot Health Practice. Explore gait, pressure distribution and mechanical forces to help identify factors that may contribute to pain, pressure areas and recurring foot problems.
CPD: 15
Overview
Description:
Do you understand what you are seeing when your patient walks?
Biomechanics plays an important role in Foot Health Practice. Understanding how the foot and lower limb function during standing and walking can help practitioners recognise how forces are distributed through the foot and how altered movement patterns may contribute to pain, pressure, and recurrent foot problems.
Why does that callus keep returning in the same place?
Treating the lesion addresses what is present today, but understanding the mechanical forces acting on the foot can help you consider why the problem may be occurring in the first place.
This masterclass is designed to give Foot Health Practitioners greater confidence when assessing the patient beyond the immediate presenting lesion. Participants will explore the relationship between movement, loading, pressure, and lower-limb function and consider how biomechanical observations can contribute to more informed clinical decision-making.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the basic principles of biomechanics relevant to Foot Health Practice.
- Recognise how the foot and lower limb function during standing and walking.
- Identify common movement patterns and mechanical factors that may influence foot function.
- Understand how pressure and load are distributed through the foot during gait.
- Recognise how altered biomechanics may contribute to pain, pressure areas, and recurrent lesions.
- Develop greater confidence when observing a patient’s gait and lower-limb function.
- Consider possible mechanical factors when assessing recurring corns, calluses, and other pressure-related problems.
- Apply biomechanical observations to support more informed treatment planning and patient advice.
