The College was founded at a crucial time when legislative changes imposed by the Health Bill, 1999 redefined the landscape of podiatry in the UK. As a result, the titles of Chiropodist and Podiatrist were reserved only for those with university degrees or those who could prove extensive prior practice. This change created a gap in the market for skilled foot care professionals, which the College addressed with the introduction of the Foot Health Practitioner title. This role allowed practitioners to continue offering vital foot care services without infringing protected titles, thereby ensuring that high-quality foot care remained accessible to all. Today, the Foot Health Practitioner title is well-recognized and valued across the UK, with our practitioners playing a crucial role as the NHS focuses its resources on more complex cases
